What a great Travel Fair! The students did a great job of explaining about their country and showing off their learning! Thank you to the parents who came to visit. It was great to see you.

Monday is our Dress Rehearsal. All students need to bring their instruments for this.

They could choose to leave notes, make cookies or treats or lend/give (with parent's permission only) a book, that belongs to them that they enjoyed reading. If they choose to buy something, they've been asked to limit it to $10.00 and use their own money.

Math - Shapes page - measure the angles in each shape. Tell what you noticed about the angles. Can you describe the shape in any other ways?

  1. Nov. 23-Science: Complete page 134 after reading p.41-44 in Science Probe.
  2. We are needing 13 2 litre pop bottles for a science experiment. Please cut off the top, but just the top, so that the pop bottle becomes a cylinder with only a bottom.
  3. We need interesting paper for a Christmas collage that we will be doing. Paper with interesting designs and texture will help to make are collages more interesting.  Scraps of Christmas paper would be greatly appreciated.

Homework

Social Studies - the test on Japan is June 9th. Review the pages in your Japan book. Remember to get someone to quiz you. Expect a map question.

Social Studies - the draft of the research report is due June 9th.
The 6 paragraphs are: the introduction, the 4 main points (answers to the questions) and the conclusion. The introduction is where you get the reader's attention with your enthusiasm for your topic. Also, link the topic very clearly to Japan, explaining why it is important in Japanese culture. In the conclusion you can repeat a bit of this, but also make mention of some of the key points in your research (topic sentences).

Class Lunch Arpil 8th

Every student will be involved in our class lunch. Students have brought home a list of the ingredients they need to bring, please bring the items by Thursday. If it is not possible to bring these items please let Mrs. Black or Mrs. Hass know as soon as possible. We will be preparing and sharing our lunch on Friday.

The art project has been started. Students will have lots of time at school to work on it. They may also work on it at home if they wish. They need to bring their plan and their materials by Thursday. No due date has been set.

Science Project Written-Due April 5 Oral-Due April 11

  1. Written Report: The written portion of this report can be in any format (poster, book, diorama). It must follow the criteria.
  2. Oral Presentation: Each group will choose how they would like to present. They can do a traditional oral presentation, video, DVD, Power Point, slide show or any other method. Please make sure you check,  with Mrs. Black, that they method for your oral presentation is appropriate.  You are responsible for the technology that you use. I can supply some equipment but you need to know how to use the technology that you choose to present with. It may not be possible to accommodate last minute equipment requests. The criteria for the oral presentation will be set on March 9th. 
  3. Each student has a copy of the criteria for the written portion of the research project.
  4. Criteria for the oral presentation will be going home March 14th.

The math test on Friday is on geometry. The Grade 6 test is on geometric shapes, their names and properties. The Grade 5 test is on drawing 3-D geometric shapes and measuring angles.
